The Local Area


Boncath is in the Teifi Valley and enjoys a rich community tradition of hospitality, music, the arts and recreational activities. The village (population 700) is in north Pembrokeshire about 5 miles west of Newcastle Emlyn and 3.5 miles from Cardigan. The village stands at a cross-roads linking the nearby Cenarth waterfalls and Eglwyswrw. Formerly a hamlet around an inn, the village developed after the coming of the railway in 1885.


The Community Hall
The Community Hall, a registered charity, provides a venue for events in the local area holding yoga, painting, drawing and Welsh language classes. There is also a children’s playground next door to the community hall. The village shop and post office is open 7 days a week and bus 430 connects Cardigan to the north and Narberth to the south.

Cilgerran Castle
Cilgerran Castle, 13th century Norman stronghold which hosts open air theatre and is open theatre and medieval enactments.

Rhosygilwen
Rhosygilwen arts venue holding classical, folk, jazz and Welsh choral events all year around (1.5 m). The venue has an annual book festival, a chamber music summer Proms, opera season and various seasonal choral concerts such as St David’s Day and Christmas gala.

Cardigan Town
Cardigan town is rated in the top 10 places in the UK to raise a family by the Daily Telegraph. Cardigan Castle dates back to the 12th century and has art galleries and artisanal shops and restaurants plus the town Theatre Mwldan which has a 3-screen cinema and features regular touring shows.

The Cardigan 18-hole golf course overlooks the bay and has been rated as one of the most picturesque places in Britain to play the game. There are several other excellent courses within easy driving. The River Teifi is popular for water sports such as boating and fishing. The Welsh Wildlife park (4 m) on marshes is teaming with birdlife and the famous 160m Pembrokeshire Coastal Path (designated by Conde Nast as one of most impressive walks in the world) starts a few miles away.

Four stunning sandy beaches are within 5-6 miles. Cardigan Bay is popular as a surfers destination.


Education
There is a good supply of primary and secondary schools with three secondary schools in Crmych (Welsh medium, 5m), Cardigan (Bilingual, 5m) and Newcastle Emlyn (English medium, 6m).
